Adult Neurology Residency

Adult Neurology Residency

Sleep Medicine

Introduction and Goals

For senior neurology residents, sleep medicine is a 1 week to 1 month elective rotation; residents and fellows from the departments of psychiatry, internal medicine, pediatrics, and surgery may rotate for 3 or 6 month longitudinal experience. The supervising physician is Dr. Mihaela Bazalakova.

The goals of this rotation are to equip trainees with the basic clinical knowledge and skills to evaluate primary and co-morbid sleep disorders including sleep apnea, insomnia, and nocturnal movements (e.g. restless legs syndrome).

Residents must contact Shannon Shields, shannon.shields@uwmf.wisc.edu, in addition to filling out the online elective form. With multiple rotators, the sleep clinic prefers at least 4-6 weeks notice before a resident is able to be scheduled for a rotation.

Objectives and Evaluation Matrix

As with all of the neurology rotations, the specific objectives are reflected in the entrustable professional activities and individual milestones listed below. These form the basis for the end-of-rotation evaluation. (Please see the section End-of-Rotation Evaluations above for the list of milestone abbreviations).
